The seventh child of nine children, Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. They were three sisters and six brothers - La-Toya, Janet, Rebbie, Sigmund, Toriano, Jermaine, Marlon, Steven and of course Michael. At the age of five, Michael Jackson began his illustrious career as the lead singer of the Jackson 5. The other 4 members of the Jackson 5 were his brothers Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and Marlon.
In the beginning, The Jackson 5 performed at local clubs and parties as well as entering competitions which gave them exposure and allowed them to grow together as a band. It was in 1968 when the Jackson 5 would get their big first big break. Berry Gordy of Motown Records heard about the Jackson 5 from Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers and granted the band an audition. After the audition, Motown Records signed them right then and there and moved the group to California. It didn't take long for Michael Jackson and his brothers to start producing hit records. Among their first few singles which became huge hits in the U.S. were "I'll Be There", "I Want You Back" and "The Love You Save".
The Jackson 5 would make fourteen albums with Berry Gordy and Motown Records up until 1976 with Michael Jackson recording four other solo albums. The Jackson 5 was the first band in American history to have their first four hits make it to the top of the American music charts. The four hits were: "I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There".
