Over the past number of decades, movie goers have been lucky to see some of the greatest war movies of all time to come out of Hollywood. I believe it is important for war movies to portray what life (and death) was like for the soldiers involved in each conflict. It is equally important for good war films to show how war effects the country were the battles are fought as well as the turmoil it brings to the soldiers loved ones at home.
All of my favorite John Wayne war movies will always have a special place in my heart as will the other great war movies of the past like, “Midway”, “From Here To Eternity” and “Tora Tora Tora”.
But, during the past 30 years or so, war movies have taken on a whole new look. The advancement in film technology, especially in special effects, along with the easing of restrictions on what can and cannot be shown to the public has certainly changed the modern day war film.
Today, many movie lovers believe that the detailed graphics and realism of today’s war flicks leave a lot less to our imagination and some believe the acting has gone downhill. Some think that war movies have moved into the realm of horror films. Others believe it is for the better. They say that the war films of today are far more realistic as they show you what war is really like, Hell!
I am among those who believe that the war movies made over the past few decades are better than their predecessors as long as the acting is strong. Here is my list of the Top 5 War Movies Of All Time...
